MAPS call - multilateral initiative, research collaboration between Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Switzerland.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) announced the MAPS (Multilateral Academic Projects) call for multilateral research projects implemented by scientists from Switzerland in collaboration with teams from Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and Romania. Applications can be submitted until the end of June 2024. Polish teams in the MAPS call for proposals will be financed from the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Programme, which is part of the second Swiss financial support for selected EU member states.

The most important information about the call:

1. basic research projects in all fields of science;
2. the international consortium that Polish researchers will join, in addition to the team from Switzerland (the project leader), must include at least one partner from the other participating countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and Romania);
3. call open to experienced researchers who have held a PhD for at least four years by the application deadline. Additionally, the person acting as the PI of the national component of a joint research project is required to have skills to lead a research team. These will be assessed by the Swiss SNSF agency based on the qualifications described in the application;
4. the PI must be employed under an employment contract in the institution where the project is implemented, from the moment the project begins to its completion. The institution is also required to provide the project team with access to appropriate research infrastructure;
5. it is possible to submit projects lasting: from 36 to 48 months;
6. the project costs may also include funds for external services, business trips, mutual visits and short research stays among the consortium partners, purchase of scientific and research equipment, devices and software, materials and small equipment;
7. the maximum amount of funding that a single team from each country can obtain is 350 000 CHF;
